Dr. Richard Bailey Participates in Lower Dexter Park Unveiling

In June 2018, historian Dr. Richard Bailey participated in the unveiling of Lower Dexter Park in downtown Montgomery, a new public space created at the historic site of the former Montgomery Fair department store.


The location holds an important place in Montgomery's Civil Rights history. Rosa Parks worked at Montgomery Fair before her historic arrest on December 1, 1955, an event that helped spark the Montgomery Bus Boycott.


The park was developed to preserve and recognize the site's connection to Rosa Parks and the broader history of the Civil Rights Movement in Montgomery. The unveiling brought together city officials, community members, and individuals committed to preserving Montgomery's history.
